How many pigs like to be read to? Daisy I loved books and now Daisy II (Datu) continues the mission
“TO ENCOURAGE YOUNGSTERS TO DEVELOP A LOVE FOR READING ”
Daisy and Farmer Minor have performed “Pig Out on Reading” programs across the U.S. for over 10 years and as of 4/27/09, Daisy II has taken over as the “World's Most Famous Pig”, already having been filmed for Belgian National TV and featured in newspapers and TV across the U.S.
Residing on their farm in Bristol, CT in the busy fall season, they travel much of the year.
As one newspaper wrote in a two-page, seven color photo feature spread….
Daisy is “SOME PIG!” ……… and “INSPIRES CHILDREN TO READ!”
Daisy became the first pig ever invited inside the U.S. Capitol while on her 1 st National Tour in 2002. Daisy had hundreds of Library cards from Libraries & Schools across the U.S. and Datu already has his own extensive collection.
While the original Daisy was in newspapers around the world, TV news coast to coast and had been in Weekly Reader & Time For Kids , Datu already has 3 “Keys to Cities”, proclamations by Mayors and certificates of “thanks” from Schools and Libraries! Songs, poems and raps have been written for Daisy. Countless School Principals, Teachers, Librarians, Business Executives, Mayors, Celebrities and hundreds of thousands of school children have kissed the famous Pig! People kiss Daisy for a number of reasons ranging from promises kept to students for reading lots of books to fundraising efforts on behalf of non-profit groups, but mostly, just for the wonderful love of Daisy!
Daisy I presented programs in all 48 contiguous states and did 3 National Tours ! Datu has already visited 19 states and has a National Tour in the planning stages.
On Dec. 18, 2006 , Daisy made “Nationally Syndicated TV” as a featured guest on the Montel Williams Show in NYC, and was on the “Today Show” as well.
While most of Daisy's work deals with reading programs, we do programs at Senior Centers, Assisted Living Facilities, Churches and more! Other Daisy notables include being featured in calendars, serving as the mascot in a “March Against Hunger” and making a music world debut on the CD cover of “Big Fun on the Hog Farm” by River City Slim & the Zydeco Hogs (Daisy's favorite Zydeco band)
Farmer Minor does storytelling about Daisy's formative years (all true) with Farmer & Mrs. Minor. We share Daisy noises, give Daisy a treat, and talk about Daisy's pampered porcine life and about how Daisy I and II became such famous pigs. (all due to their love of “Pig Books” and Libraries) Farmer Minor brings his rocking chair, many of Daisy's newspaper articles on posters and of course, many of their favorite pig books. Daisy has the world's largest collection of “pig books”. Based on the age and # of children, Farmer Minor selects a book that the children can help read to Daisy. With older children, he tells a story of one of Daisy's favorite books. At the end of the program, following the Daisy pledge, all are able to pet Daisy. Photo opportunities are plentiful! Willing Principals, Librarians, Teachers, etc. will be able to give Daisy a BIG SMOOCH as part of a reading incentive, summer reading program or simply because they want to kiss the “most famous pig in the whole world !”
Program is approximately an hour including kissing and petting. Most appropriate for ages 4-12.
A “mini-program” is available for Library Storytimes/Nursery Schools (ages 2-6 appropriate)
We are certified by USDA and insured.
